PARISH NURSING AT ST. MARY’S OF LOURDES U

"......and he sent them to preach The Kingdom of God and to heal the sick"

Luke 9:2

Parish Nursing is a healing ministry that responds to the health and wellness needs of church members. Parish Nursing focuses on the spiritual, emotional and physical dimensions of persons as they strive to achieve wellness and manage illness.

Healing and health has been an important ministry of the church throughout the ages. Healing is again central to the church ministry today. Healing is not curing, it is rather the restoration of wholeness by uniting body, mind, and spirit. God has given us the miraculous gift of life. We must be stewards of our own health.

Parish Nurses are persons of faith who are experienced registered nurse. The Parish Nurse provides a link between faith and health by combining her faith and spirituality with nursing knowledge and skills. Her main focus is promotion of health and prevention of disease.

The Parish Nurse program is directed and supported by the Health and Wellness Board of the church. The Parish Nurse is a member of this Board. The Parish Nurse program utilizes the support of volunteers within the church membership for implementation of the health programs.
